I read an article about an artist named Kurt Swinghammer in my local paper. He was complaining that there was no place in St Catharines to perform original music. I had been playing a regular gig in Port Dalhousie doing ONLY cover songs and so I was inspired to go hear him perform and was very impressed.

At the time he was putting out full album cassettes on a regular basis, that he produced himself, as well as designing the artwork. I had written a bunch of songs by this point that I thought were pretty good, so I reached out to him to see if he could help me make a record too. Thankfully he agreed! Kurt’s only condition was that I let him play all the music on it. So except for playing guitar
on two songs I mostly just sang.

We recorded at Rodman Hall Art gallery in St Catharines over a two week period. When it was done Kurt kindly forwarded it to some label folks in Toronto.This led to my first ever music industry notices. In fact even Island records at one point wanted to sign me.

The music now sounds pretty 80’s and dated to me but it opened up a few doors and I think there are some promising songs on it. It’s my dream to someday re-record this record and call it “There’s A Way Revisited”…we will see. – RS
